The Mobile Simulation Center and associated training curricula, is being developed by Orbis in conjunction with several leaders in simulation training including the Center for Virtual Care at the University of California, Davis. It will provide training for healthcare professionals in low- and middle-income countries to learn new techniques and competencies, refresh current skills and improve patient safety. By simulating surgical eye procedures within the new training program, Orbis will accelerate the rate at which local doctors achieve surgical capability and improve surgical quality.
The curricula that has been developed focuses on holistic simulation training for every member of the ophthalmology team including doctors, nurses and anesthesiologists. Simulation training breaks down a complex surgery into smaller parts allowing local doctors to focus on a certain skill – something you can’t do with a human eye.
