Focus on Telemedicine

Cybersight is our award winning remote training and education platform. It was launched in 2003 to allow health teams around the world to access our training and education tools anywhere, anytime - and it looks like it's going to play a bigger part in our plans for 2020 than anyone imagined.

Since its launch, Cybersight has helped Orbis train more people than ever before. In 2019 alone we were able to train and teach an amazing 7,600 medical professionals from a staggering 183 countries - all via online remote learning. It was a record-breaking year!

Telecommunications and remote working practices look like they are going to play an even more significant role in 2020 than any of us ever imagined. Right now, millions of people around the world have left their workplace and are keeping in touch with colleagues, friends and family via their computers.

Orbis is no different. Through Cybersight we can continue our mission to prevent and treat blindness in a safe, socially responsible way. We are currently investigating ways to expand our Cybersight activity as we are already seeing a spike in the demand for remote learning and consultation services, as hands-on training and face-to-face teaching simply isn't possible in many places around the world.

In the first week that the US, and much of Europe and the rest of the world, ramped up its isolation efforts - Cybersight page views doubled - from 6,500 page views to 13,500 in just a week.

More Important Than Ever

Cybersight is an online training and mentorship service for eye health professionals in communities around the world. Through online seminars, live surgery and a library of clinical resources, we’re able to train eye teams everywhere – even in times of quarantine and isolation.

By embracing technology and investing in our Cybersight platform, we’ve been able to deliver training in more countries, to more people, than ever before.

It also means we are now well placed to continue our mission. Even in the face of such unprecedented global public health concerns, our Volunteer Faculty can train and teach teams around the world from the safety of their own homes.

With many of our upcoming in-person programs postponed, this type of remote mentoring is now more crucial than ever before in the fight against avoidable blindness.

We have recently launched several new online courses and are reviewing plans to transition many of our planned face-to-face training sessions online.

More news to follow on this soon...

In the meantime, our teams are working hard to ensure we can continue to deliver eye care where it's needed most.

Your support is more vital now, than ever before.
