Elaine Woon | Director, Orbis Singapore

Elaine has over 20 years of experience in business development and marketing communications for both corporate and non-profit organisations. In her current role as Director of Development at Orbis International, Singapore, she engages the Board and Global Leadership Team to raise the organisation’s profile in Southeast Asia and bring quality eye care services to places with the greatest need. She leads revenue growth for the organisation through strategically aligned partnerships, inspiring corporates and individuals to raise the resources needed for better eye health.

Elaine began her business development career with Phillip Capital, where she contracted international financial and data media companies to update investors and equip them with investment analysis tools. After nearly three years, she joined United Overseas Bank’s (UOB) Life Assurance subsidiary. She spent five years at UOB, where she spearheaded the alternative distribution channel and brought in SG$25M within one and a half years.

A serendipitous road trip overseas to a rural place transformed her perspectives of life, and Elaine decided to take a leap into the non-profit sector.

She joined Riverkids Project, an NGO that protects children and families from trafficking and exploitation in Cambodia. In her six years with Riverkids, she worked with the Co-founder and engaged both expatriate and Singapore communities. During her time at Riverkids, the charity grew six times its original revenue eventually providing over 600 at-risk families and children with food, healthcare, education, and social assistance. Riverkids also created jobs for teenagers to keep them off the streets and on track to building stable careers.

Elaine graduated From the University of London with a Bachelor of Science in Economics (honours) and Management Studies. In her free time, she practises yoga twice weekly, walks nature trails, plays with children, and drinks lots of coffee.
