Stuart Dean | Chairman of Orbis Singapore and Former Ceo, Ge Asean

Stu has over 35 years of experience working across GE businesses in the US and Asia in senior positions in sales, services marketing and general management. He graduated magna cum laude from Duke University with a BA in Economics and Political Science and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Following a two-year assignment with the US Government, he obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School.

ASEAN is close to his heart having served GE in the region since 1991 when he was Business Development Manager, GE International, based in Singapore with responsibilities for Southeast Asia and Australia. In 1993, he became President, GE Capital, Southeast Asia and President, GE Indonesia, in 1995 based in Jakarta. Stu then had responsibility for all of ASEAN as CEO from 2002 to 2015 when he retired from GE.

Stu is currently a Senior Advisor for ASEAN Advisory Pte Ltd., a corporate and government consultancy and resides in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In addition, he serves on several Boards namely, AirAsia Group Bhd, Asia’s leading low-cost carrier, the Harvard Business School Asia Pacific, Junior Achievement Malaysia and the Duke University Board of Visitors School at Nicholas School of the Environment. Prior to that, he was on the Board of Visitors at Duke University for six years where he was recognized by the university with the Charles A. Duke award. Further, he also serves as Chairman for several Non-profit Organizations, including Junior Achievement Malaysia and Orbis Asia which trains doctors to treat eye diseases in developing countries.

He is passionate about leadership development and is an executive-in-residence at IMD in Singapore. He has worked with groups like GE, PTT, Siam City Cement and shared his learnings at numerous conferences. In his free time Stu likes to play tennis, read and hike.
