Country Programs
Through partnership with local hospitals or medical institutions, Orbis runs long-term sight-restoring projects in different countries across a project period of 3-5 years.
PEDIATRIC EYE CARE IN RURAL CHINA
China is among countries with the highest prevalence of myopia. Uncorrected refractive errors can affect children’s visual development. Orbis is partnering with Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center in Guangzhou to improve the capacity of pediatric eye care service of county-level hospitals in three provinces, incl. Guangdong, Jiangxi and Yunnan.
GREEN VISION CENTERS IN INDIA
Establishing Green Vision Centres (GVCs) in remote areas can make quality eye care services accessible to the communities and it will continue to provide primary eye care services beyond the project duration. GVCs will be powered by solar renewable energy to ensure uninterrupted services in an environmentally responsible manner.
BACKLOG CLEARANCE OF TRACHOMATOUS TRICHIASIS IN SOUTHERN ETHIOPIA
Ethiopia has the highest prevalence of active trachoma globally. So Orbis has been contributing to the reduction of avoidable blindness due to trachomatous trichiasis (TT) with focus on TT backlog clearance, through training of Integrated Eye Care Workers & TT case finders, and conducting regular trichiasis surgical intervention.
MASS DRUG ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM FOR TRACHOMA CONTROL IN SOUTHERN ETHIOPIA
Through Orbis’s annual mass drug administration, we delivered over 12.3 million doses of the antibiotic Azithromycin to Ethiopians at high risk of trachoma in 2021. We have remained committed to continuing to distribute sight-saving antibiotics, even facing hurdles, as we know how restoring vision changes lives and communities.
